For this new 192-room, 384-bed project, which is expected to obtain LEED Silver status, Starck Architecture and California Center for Sustainable Energy needed a cost-effective alternative energy solution.
Project managers found that by combining solar PV and ClearEdge Power’s fuel cell technology into a complete energy system, they would be able to utilize a less costly type of solar PV, reduce the amount of solar PV required overall, and completely eliminate the need for a solar thermal system. In total, this solution was able to save the project more than $1 million in construction costs and upon completion, ClearEdge Power’s units are projected to provide annual savings of $26,000.
